Editorial Policy

Error Code Vault publishes information about appliance error codes, warning lights, common faults, reset procedures, diagnostic modes and troubleshooting. Our editorial aim is to explain what available evidence tells us, what a homeowner can reasonably check, and when professional assistance is the safer choice.

This policy describes the standards we use when researching, writing, reviewing and updating our guides. Appliance instructions can vary by model and country, so no single article should be treated as a replacement for the documentation supplied with a particular appliance.

How We Choose Topics

We develop guides around specific questions people have about an appliance, such as what a displayed code means, why a machine has stopped draining or heating, or how to identify the correct reset instructions. Reader feedback, changes to manufacturer guidance and gaps in existing explanations can also help identify topics that need attention.

Each article should address a clear purpose. When two topics ask essentially the same question, we prefer improving the existing guide rather than publishing another page with little new value.

Sources and Technical Accuracy

Manufacturer documentation is the starting point for model-specific technical information whenever it is available. Depending on the subject, relevant sources may include:

  • Manufacturer user manuals and official support pages.
  • Product, installation and service documentation.
  • Official parts information and compatibility references.
  • Product recalls and guidance from relevant safety authorities.
  • Reputable appliance-repair publications used as supporting context.

Community discussions, user reports and videos may identify questions worth investigating, but a reported experience alone does not establish an error-code meaning or prove a particular repair is appropriate.

We distinguish documented information from possible causes. An error code can point to a system or operating condition without identifying a single failed component. We do not knowingly invent error-code meanings, model numbers, part numbers, button sequences, technical specifications or repair prices.

Model and Regional Differences

Appliances that look similar may have different controls, fault codes, parts and service procedures. Before presenting a model-specific instruction, the relevant brand, appliance type, model family and market should be considered.

Where a procedure applies only to selected models, the guide should say so. When reliable evidence does not establish compatibility, we explain the limitation and direct readers to the correct manufacturer manual or support service.

Our guides are written for international readers, including those in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Regional terminology, power supplies, plumbing requirements and product variations are discussed when they materially affect the advice.

How Articles Are Written

Guides are structured around the reader’s immediate problem. We aim to give a direct explanation near the beginning, followed by relevant safe checks, what each result may suggest, and the next reasonable action.

We use straightforward language, descriptive headings and step-by-step instructions when a procedure is appropriate. Tables are included when they make a comparison easier to understand. We avoid repeating keywords, padding articles to reach a word count, making exaggerated promises or presenting speculation as a confirmed diagnosis.

Related questions are answered in the relevant sections of the guide rather than added as repetitive question-and-answer lists.

Appliance Safety Standards

Safety information is part of the explanation, not an afterthought. Basic user checks may include confirming settings, reviewing visible hoses, cleaning user-accessible filters or consulting the appliance manual, provided those actions are appropriate for the model and conditions.

We do not provide homeowner repair walkthroughs for live electrical testing, internal wiring, gas or combustion systems, refrigerant circuits, high-voltage microwave components, compressor service, safety-device bypasses or major disassembly. These jobs require the appropriate training and equipment.

Stop using the appliance and seek appropriate help if there is smoke, sparking, a burning or gas smell, severe overheating, damaged wiring, flooding near electrical parts or another immediate hazard. Contact local emergency services when there is imminent danger.

A reset does not repair a physical fault. Likewise, entering a diagnostic mode does not make a machine safe to operate or establish that one particular part needs replacing.

Authorship and Editorial Responsibility

Articles may identify the contributor responsible for the published guide. Error Code Vault’s editorial coverage includes general site information as well as appliance terminology and guidance relevant to different regions. Information about contributors and their areas of coverage is available on our About Us page.

A byline does not mean the author personally inspected or repaired the appliance. We do not claim professional certification, hands-on testing or review by a qualified technician unless that work has actually taken place and can be substantiated.

Use of AI-Assisted Tools

Digital and AI-assisted tools may support research organization, drafting, editing or identifying material that needs checking. They are not considered authoritative sources for appliance safety or technical procedures.

Information suggested by such tools must be assessed against suitable evidence before it is presented as fact. Responsibility for the content published on Error Code Vault remains with the website’s editorial management.

Updates and Corrections

We may revise an article when manufacturer guidance changes, new model information becomes available, a safety issue is identified or a reader reports a possible mistake. Significant factual changes may warrant a correction note. A displayed update or review date should reflect real editorial activity, not an automatic attempt to make an older article appear new.

If you notice an incorrect code explanation, misleading model applicability, an unsafe instruction or a broken reference, please report it through our Contact Us page. Include the article URL and, where relevant, the appliance’s full model number, region and supporting documentation.

For more information about how reported errors are handled, read our Corrections Policy.

Advertising and Editorial Independence

Commercial relationships, where present, should not determine error-code meanings, technical conclusions, safety advice or correction decisions. Advertising and sponsored material should be identifiable, and relevant commercial disclosures should explain the relationship to readers.

Error Code Vault provides informational content about products made by various manufacturers. Mentioning a brand or model does not by itself indicate manufacturer endorsement or affiliation.
