Air Duct and Dryer Vent Cleaning Cost: Compare the Scope

Air duct and dryer vent cleaning cost depends on two separate jobs: cleaning the heating and cooling duct system, and clearing the dryer’s exhaust route. Ask for each scope and price separately before judging a bundle. A discounted dryer add-on does not establish the cost or need for whole-house duct cleaning.

One published Houston example lists HVAC duct cleaning from $199 for up to 10 vents, with conditional dryer-vent add-ons. Those are one company’s advertised terms, not a national average or a quotation for your property.

A published bundle example, with its conditions

Houston Kwik Dry’s pricing page lists these amounts in US dollars:

Listed serviceAdvertised amountCondition
Air duct cleaningFrom $199Up to 10 vents; additional vents listed at $30 each.
Side-wall dryer vent add-on$50Only when performed with air duct cleaning.
Roof dryer vent add-on$99Only when performed with air duct cleaning.

Adding the listed base and add-on gives $249 for the side-wall example or $298 for the roof example, before any additional charges. These are calculated examples, not confirmed all-inclusive totals. Obtain a written price for the actual vent count, access and service conditions.

Decide whether both services are needed

The US EPA’s air-duct guidance recommends cleaning HVAC ducts as needed rather than routinely. A bundle offer alone is not evidence that your heating and cooling system needs cleaning.

Dryer exhaust has a different maintenance purpose. The CPSC dryer safety alert explains that lint accumulation can restrict airflow and cause overheating. Clearing that exhaust route does not clean the home’s HVAC ducts.

Ask what the quoted cleaning reaches

  • For HVAC work, which ducts and system components are included?
  • For the dryer, does the service cover the complete exhaust route and termination?
  • Are access, extra vents, multiple systems or difficult routes charged separately?
  • Are repairs, replacement ducting or chemical treatments proposed as additional work?
  • What evidence will document the condition and completed work?

Request the reason and terms for any added treatment before authorising it. Do not assume advertised deodorising or disinfecting establishes a health benefit or is needed for every system.

Compare complete proposals

Use the same requested scope when obtaining other local quotes. Confirm applicable taxes, minimum charges and exclusions, and separate cleaning from repairs that the inspection may identify.

If slow drying prompted the enquiry, our long drying-time guide helps you describe the symptom. Ask the provider to assess the relevant dryer problem rather than purchasing a broader bundle solely because an add-on is cheaper.
