Identify the dryer’s heating method

Vented, condenser and heat-pump dryers do not all use the same airflow and heating systems. A slow-drying symptom can also have several causes, so start with the full model number instead of assuming the heater has failed.

Check the basic conditions safely

Note whether the drum turns, the cycle finishes and the clothes stay damp. Clean user-accessible lint filters as instructed, and make sure any accessible vent path is not visibly blocked. Stop use if you smell burning or see signs of overheating.

Gas-dryer repairs, internal electrical work and safety-device bypasses require qualified service.

Airflow, heat and loading are not the same issue

If drying takes longer than normal, note the load size, whether the machine feels unusually hot and whether a warning appears. Those details help you look for appropriate manufacturer guidance. A lint filter check is a normal owner task, but internal electrical parts, gas components and safety cutouts are not. Never continue running a dryer that smells of burning.
